Two students chosen for Youth to Washington trip
Winners of our 2017 Youth to Washington contest were Willa Sauer of Valmeyer and Michael Chism of Fults. Both students attend Valmeyer High School.
They traveled to Washington, D.C. for an all-expense paid trip in June which took them to memorable sites such as Gettysburg, Arlington National Cemetery, the Washington National Cathedral, several Smithsonian Museums, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the World War II Memorial, memorials to Presidents Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington and Roosevelt, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, the Newseum, and a number of other historical sites.
The students also attended Youth Day in Springfield back in March, along with 10 other students who had entered the contest. Their winning applications were selected from a group of 14.
This tour has been a nationwide tradition of the electric cooperatives since 1957.
